Fragment 31
Fragment 31 is a Melbourne-based performance collective, focussed on interdisciplinary practice and research. It is led by Leisa Shelton with associate artists assembling in varying combinations depending on the requirements of the diverse projects under investigation. Leisa Shelton is a performance artist/maker and curator with a practice that foregrounds collaboration and an advocacy for new Australian transdisciplinary work. Leisa's current practice is focused on Curatorship and Development of new frames for the presentation and development of Performance. This shift in direction from having worked nationally and internationally as a performer, maker, director and teacher of performance, evolved out of a recognition of distinct gaps in the cultural landscape for opportunities that offered greater visibility and recognition for Australian Contemporary Performance.
Presenting the Australian Artists Section in the 2014 edition with Barbara Campbell, Sarah-Jane Norman and Julie Vulcan, Fragment 31 returns at the VENICE INTERNATIONAL PERFORMANCE ART WEEK 2016 curating live and on exhibit works by Helen Cole, Casey Jenkins, James McAllister and Stelarc.
